Ruwe Cardinal Laws & Ordinances
“A Church of the Spirit, for the People with the Spirit”
‘Roho en Singruok, Roho ok en din’
I. The Supremacy of the Holy Spirit (Roho)
At the center of the Ruwe Holy Ghost Church of East Africa (RHGCEA) is the absolute supremacy of the Holy Spirit. As an indigenous Roho movement originating among the Luo of Nyanza and Western Kenya in 1907, our foundation is built upon continuous prophetic revelations. All Church governance, personal conduct, and ecclesiastical decisions are surrendered to the leading of the Spirit. The Cardinal Law commands that no earthly doctrine shall supersede the prophetic revelation given unto the faithful.
II. The Musanda Covenant and Martyrdom
To be a member of RHGCEA is to bear the historical weight of the January 1934 Musanda repression. The blood of our martyrs sealed the founding history of this Church. It is a Cardinal Ordinance that every congregation shall annually commemorate the Musanda Martyrdom. This observance is not merely a memorial but a spiritual renewal of our covenant with God, affirming our resilience and dedication to the Roho faith.
III. Preservation of the Sacred Dhoroho Liturgy
Our worship is distinct and sacrosanct. The Dhoroho liturgy, handed down through our founders and preserved faithfully through generation to generation, must be maintained in its pure form. Pastors and church elders are ordained to uphold these distinct liturgical texts, hymns, and oral histories without alteration. The spiritual vibrancy of our worship depends upon our fidelity to these God-given practices.
IV. Purity, Conduct, and Self-Reliance
The vision prophesied by Lawi Obonyo demands a community that is educated, spiritually vibrant, and self-reliant. Members are strictly forbidden from engaging in corrupt practices, idolatry, or actions that defile the physical and spiritual body. We are called to uplift one another through social welfare, communal support, and mutual respect, reflecting the love of Christ in all secular and ecclesiastical dealings.
V. Authority and the Archbishopric
The Archbishop is recognized as the supreme spiritual leader of the RHGCEA on earth, guiding the Church in the wisdom of the Roho. Discipline, ecclesiastical appointments, and the structural integrity of the Dioceses, Pastorates, and Local Churches fall under the authority of the Archcathedral at Ruwe. Rebellion against the spiritual authority established by the Spirit is considered a breach of our fundamental covenant.
“We build our institutions to uplift our people and honor God.”
